Delivered by Handley Page (Cricklewood & Radlett), between 4Jan42 and 16Feb42. R9457 was one of three No.76 Sqdn Halifaxes lost on this operation. See: W1035; W1104. Airborne 2316 3Jun42 from Middleton St.George. Shot down by a night- fighter (Hptm Helmut Lent, 11./NJG2) and crashed at St-Maartensvlotbrug (Noord Holland), 16 km NNW of Alkmaar. F/S Stell and Sgt Metcalfe have no known graves; the others killed are buried in Bergen General Cemetery.
